Instow Beach
About
Instow Beach, also known as Instow Sands, is a quiet, family‑friendly stretch of coast tucked at the mouth of the River Torridge in North Devon. The gentle sandbanks at the estuary’s entrance calm most ocean swells, making it an ideal spot for children, couples, and those looking for a relaxed day by the sea. Although the tide often draws low‑lying boats on the beach, the water remains cool and clear enough for swimming, and launches are available for boat‑accessed spots. The beach is popular for windsurfing and kite‑surfing, with plenty of flat water under the clear skies of the south‑west coast. Beyond water‑sports, the estuary offers fine opportunities for bird‑watching and the nearby sand dunes are a haven for wildlife, including rare orchids. While the beach itself has minimal facilities, its location along the South West Coast Path and the nearby Tarka Trail makes it a convenient stop for walkers and cyclists exploring the scenic Devon coastline.
