About

Wild camping on a farm by the banks of the River Taw in north Devon A 40-minute drive to Dartmoor National Park and Saunton Sands surfing Choice of grass pitches, meadows and river walks, masses of wildlife Looking for a wildlife-rich base in north Devon? Wolf Meadows Farm is a family-run smallholding with a wild-camping vibe on the banks of the River Taw, and set in 30 acres of green meadows and woodland. The eco-aware site owners practise traditional, sustainable and green farming methods on their smallholding, which has flower-rich meadows bordered by dense berry- and flower-filled hedgerows and ancient woodland. As well as a herd of rare Highland cattle, the meadows are home to laying hens and their guardian cockerel, so free-range organic eggs may well be on your breakfast menu. At dusk, bats fly overhead and owls can be heard calling across the river. Try turning off your phone to savour the quiet, and see if you can spot flitting warblers or hear curlews in spring… There’s a choice of spacious pitches, so you’ll never feel crammed in among your fellow guests. Camp next to the river to listen to the trickling water and watch out for the occasional otter; pitch in the meadows, where wildlife includes pheasants and squirrels; or bed down in the woodlands where deer graze. Wherever you pick, you can wake up to the dawn chorus as the birds warm up for another day.
