The Garden House is a five bedroom family house situated in 2 1/2 acres of beautifully maintained historic gardens within easy walking distance of The Chawton House Library, St. Nicholas' Church, The Jane Austen Museum, Cassandras's Cup Cafe and The Greyfriar Public House.Local attractions include the Cathedral City of Winchester, Gilbert White's House and the Oates Museum in the neighbouring village of Selborne. The ever popular Watercress Steam Railway Line which runs from Alton to Alresford. The historic naval port of Portsmouth is 30 miles South. Basingstoke and Guildford are in close proximity. Regular trains leave Alton Station to London Waterloo. The Garden House was originally the Gardener’s Cottage to Chawton House owned by Jane Austen’s brother and is located in what was the third walled garden of Chawton House.
