Botanic Gardens
About
Botanic Gardens in south Belfast is a living botanical museum spanning 28 acres of landscaped lawns, woodlands and themed gardens. Opened in 1828 as a private greenhouse for Belfast’s botanical society, the gardens became a public park in 1895, and today they feature the 19th‑century Palm House – a cast‑iron conservatory that houses tropical and cool‑wing collections of palms, ferns and exotic flowers. Adjacent to it is the Tropical Ravine, a vaulted greenhouse showcasing an impressive array of flowering plants. The site also offers a rose garden, an alpine display, a bird‑feeding zone, and lawns that host concerts and festivals. Open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. year‑round, free admission makes Botanic Gardens a popular destination for families, nature lovers and anyone seeking a serene escape from the city.
