Astley Hall
About
Astley Hall is a Grade I listed 16th‑century house in Chorley, set amid 30 acres of parkland that offers a truly immersive journey through more than four centuries of local history. Inside, visitors wander through the Great Hall and an array of stately rooms, admiring mid‑17th‑century plaster ceilings, exquisite painted paneling and a fine collection of English oak furniture. Portraits and photographs of the families that once resided here— from the Charnocks to the Tattons— bring the Hall’s rich story to life. Outside the house, the Coach House Gallery showcases contemporary exhibitions, the café Ambio and Barrica in the Park serve regional food and drink, and the walled garden, play areas and sports pitches make it a popular destination for families and history lovers alike. Admission is modest, with day passes starting at £5 for adults and £3 for children aged 5 – 15, and annual passes available. The coach house gallery remains free to enter. Visitors can enjoy self‑guided tours during opening hours or book a coach trip to experience the Hall’s guided heritage walk. The venue is a beloved heritage asset and an essential stop for anyone exploring the heritage of North West England.
