Birds Of Poole Harbour Events
About
Birds of Poole Harbour is a registered charity dedicated to protecting and celebrating the rich birdlife of Poole Harbour, England’s largest intertidal wetland and designated Ramsar and Special Protection Area. Visitors can experience the expansive ecosystem through guided boat tours, cliff walks, school programmes, and live webcam feeds that showcase up to 300 recorded species—from soaring ospreys to wintering waders such as avocets and black‑tailed godwits. The flagship Osprey Translocation Project has successfully re‑established a breeding population of 60 juvenile ospreys, making Poole one of the UK’s leading raptor hotspots. During the winter months, a festive “Winter Safari Cruise” invites guests to witness 25,000 wetland birds in their natural habitat, while holiday gift vouchers offer a perfect present for bird lovers. Admission is free on most days, though special events and boat trips may require a modest fee or pre‑reservation.

Best time to visit
Spring and autumn offer the best birdwatching here, with spring bringing a surge of migratory warblers and waders, while autumn provides excellent opportunities for spotting raptors, large flocks of gulls and fine passage migrants. Early morning visits are ideal for witnessing nesting ospreys and other raptors in the harbour’s cliffs. However, Poole Harbour remains vibrant year‑round, with winter meals featuring a rich array of pond and coastal species.
