The Square

The Square is a bustling public square at the heart of Bournemouth Town Centre, England, surrounded by a wide array of shops, cafés and historic landmarks. It separates the Central Gardens from the Lower Gardens and is flanked by a pedestrianised promenade that hosts a variety of retail outlets ranging from high‑street chains such as M&S, Primark, and H&M to boutique stores like Beales and River Island. At the centre of the square stands an iconic clock tower—the former “Leaning Tower of Bournemouth”—which houses the Obscura Café on its lower level. The square’s history dates back to the 18th‑century Decoy Pond House, and it has evolved from a tramway roundabout to a lively pedestrian hub that serves as a focal point for both locals and visitors alike.
