Bristol Beacon
About
Bristol Beacon, formerly Colston Hall, is an iconic concert venue that has been a cultural cornerstone in the heart of Bristol for over 150 years. The Grade II‑listed building was originally opened in 1867 and has survived two major fires, two rebuilds, and extensive refurbishments, most recently completed in 2023. The centrepiece is the modern Beacon Hall auditorium, which seats 1,800 with a stunning acoustics suite, while the adjacent Lantern Hall offers an intimate space for smaller performances. Inside the venue, the newly opened Colonnade restaurant provides contemporary European dining, and the Beacon Music Centre in Southmead extends the Beacon’s mission to youth through creative learning programmes. Owner to Bristol City Council and operated by the Bristol Music Trust, the venue is now set to become the UK’s first net‑zero concert hall by 2030, powered by 348 solar panels and a wind turbine. While the music programme is an eclectic blend of classical, jazz, rock, and family‑friendly events, the venue’s historic atmosphere, modern facilities, and central location make it a must‑visit destination for residents and tourists alike.
