Frankenstein in Bath
About
Best Live Performance, Creative Bath Awards 2017 Show Of Strength Theatre Company's FRANKENSTEIN IN BATH reveals an extraordinary, and forgotten, story: how Mary Shelley wrote much of her iconic novel in Bath in 1816/17. Mary and her step sister, Claire Clairmont, lived in Bath for nearly six months. They brought several dark secrets with them and, as autumn turned into winter, a chain of tragic events unfolded around them. The tour reveals the secrets and scandals behind FRANKENSTEIN’s creation, and takes visitors on an extraordinary adventure that explores many unmarked locations - including where Mary wrote her story. The tour starts outside The Abbey Hotel, North Parade – an address Mary visited many times – and ends nearby. Route about a mile, easy walking with stops along the way, lasts c 75 minutes – in plenty time for an 8pm dinner in one of Bath’s excellent restaurants. 2017: 1 July to 30 September, Wed – Sat 6.30 pm; Sundays 4.30pm (not Mon/Tue). All tickets £8, cash only, at the start of the walk – no need to book. Advance booking, if required, at Bath Visitor Information Centre Private tours welcome, by arrangement. The event is not recommended for under 12s.
