Downe is an idyllic, coastal retreat. It is located on the tip of The Hartland Peninsula in the North Devon Coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It looks West towards the Atlantic (next stop America) and North to Lundy Island and the Welsh Coast beyond. Downe Cottages is a courtyard of eight luxury cottages with glorious sea views. Five of the cottages are one-bedroom cottages, two are two-bedroom cottages and one is a three-bedroom cottage. Every bedroom is en-suite. Charmingly situated, the cottages are set in over eight acres of gardens and grounds which, in their turn, are set in the midst of rolling farmland that slopes gently to the coast. In the distance the stone tower of St. Nectan's Church rises above the picturesque village of Stoke. All around is peace and tranquillity. The Atlantic Ocean, Berry Cove and the North Devon Coastal Path are a brief walk away along a quiet single-track road. Hartland, an unspoilt North Devon village, is a mile away. The immediate area is ideal for walkers and cyclists. A maze of footpaths and single-track lanes await guests as soon as they leave the grounds. The cliff top walks around The Hartland Peninsula are simply magical and lead the walker to secluded cove after cove. Guests return year after year to walk and re-walk the cliff tops. Over twenty-five years ago we bought Downe Farm, a Listed Property, as our family home. Following the renovation of the farmhouse we converted the Listed Farm Buildings surrounding it into the eight holiday cottages that we still own today. The photographs of the interior of the cottages tell you everything you need to know about the condition in which we keep the cottages, the soft furnishings and the equipment within them. A continually repeated "up-dating process" that we have carried out over those twenty-five yeas keeps the cottages, the furnishings and the equipment in excellent condition and up-to-date.. We treat the cottages as part of our home and we provide for the guests in our cottages as we would provide for guests in our home. In addition to the cottages, there is an excellent gym and a spa at Downe that provide private and spacious facilities for the cottage guests. The area is fabulous for coastal walks and, even in the height of the season, days can be in romantic isolation walking the Coastal Path. We have lived at Downe for over twenty-five years and we are still thrilled by our home, our cottages and The Hartland Peninsula. it is a very special location.
