Hartland Abbey & Gardens
About
Hartland Abbey & Gardens, perched on the cliffs of North Devon, is a living museum that unites a 12th‑century abbey, a family home, and award‑winning gardens. Visitors wander through the historic ruins, once home to an Augustinian community, then stroll the 18th‑century woodland and walled gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll. The estate also features the restored “Walk to the Sea,” a scenic path to the Wild Atlantic Cove and a historic gazebo overlooking the ocean. Family‑friendly attractions such as the Malory Towers trail quiz, the Abbey quiz, and the nature trail make the site a delight for children. Filming on the estate for several BBC productions adds to its cultural appeal, and the gardens are open seasonally from late March to early October, with gardens and tea rooms available Monday‑Thursday 11‑5 pm.
