Sandy Mouth Beach
About
Sandy Mouth Beach is a long, unspoilt strip of coastline tucked between the headlands of Steeple Point and Menachurch Point, just north of Bude in Cornwall. The beach is characterised by a broad sandy plateau that appears during low tide, framed by dramatic, twisted cliffs that rise up to 40 metres. It offers remarkable tidal pools, rock‑pooling opportunities and plentiful surf conditions, making it a favourite among surfers and tide‑pool enthusiasts alike. Visitors can stroll along the South West Coast Path that runs the length of the beach, following the cliff tops and enjoying sweeping views of the Atlantic. The National Trust manages the site, providing a car park that is free for members and Blue Badge holders, and a small café that stays open for most of the year, serving breakfast, hot drinks and light lunches. The beach is dog‑friendly: dogs are welcome under control and there are accessible toilets nearby. Seasonal RNLI lifeguard cover ensures safety during the busy summer months. Whether you’re exploring the tide pools, catching waves, walking the path, or simply relaxing on the sand, Sandy Mouth offers a peaceful, scenic escape from the busier Cornish coast. Key attractions include the rocky cliff faces, the tide‑rich beach, the South West Coast Path, the café, and a local surf school that offers lessons to all levels. Recommended visit duration is about four hours to enjoy the walk, tide pools and a meal at the café.
