Bute Park
About
Bute Park & Arboretum sits just behind Cardiff Castle, forming the green heart of the city. Encompassing around 130 acres (roughly 80 football pitches), the park is a Green Flag‑award winner and a CADW Grade 1 listed landscape. It offers a diverse range of sights – from the historic Animal Wall and the hidden hidden water‑taxi service to a nationally significant arboretum of champion trees, sculptural art, and lush gardens. Visitors can explore well‑marked trails, enjoy self‑guided wildlife tours, and learn through the built‑in Visitor Centre, which doubles as a venue for events and community bookings. Three cafés – Brodies on the Wall, Secret Garden Café, and Summerhouse Café – provide refreshments within the park’s scenic setting. The park is free to enter, open daily from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, and hosts a wide range of activities for families, history enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
