About

Roath Park, opened in 1894, is one of Cardiff’s oldest public parks and proudly retains its classic Victorian atmosphere. Spread along the Nant Fawr stream, the park is divided into distinct sections – each designed for a specific purpose – offering visitors a remarkable blend of horticultural interest, nature conservation and leisurely activities. The park’s highlights include the 30‑acre man‑made lake with its iconic Scott Memorial Lighthouse, the tranquil Wild Garden, the historic Llandennis Oval, and the tranquil Botanic Garden Conservatory. For family‑friendly fun, the pleasure gardens host sports pitches, playgrounds, tennis courts (free all year), and a skate‑boarding green. The recreation ground is open 24 hours a day, while the main gardens open from 7:30 am until 30 minutes before sunset, with special summer holiday hours of 11 am to 7 pm. Boat hire is available from the lake’s boatstage (Easter to September) and costs £10.30 for a 30‑minute session or £18.50 for an hour. A range of amenities – including public toilets, a cafeteria, a conservatory, and a trim trail – make Roath Park an inviting destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and families alike.
