About

Situated in an uplifting landscape with panoramic views over the Tywi Valley and beyond to the dramatic Black Mountain. Relax in our Georgian stone walled farmhouse over a sumptuous breakfast (featured three years running in Eat Well in Wales). Best Farmhouse Breakfast Award and AA Breakfast Award that relies on home baking and local traditional products. Restore your spirits in the mature and tranquil gardens that are carpeted by snowdrops, wild daffodils and bluebells in the spring.Your hosts, Colin and Jacquie Rouse, have lived at Allt y Golau since 1976 and they are active members of the local community. They both have a love and deep knowledge of the heritage and folklore of the Tywi valley which they enjoy sharing with their guests."Jacquie's breakfasts are like a Welsh morning meze. Cereals, neatly labelled preserves, home-made bread and freshly squeezed fruit juices occupy one end of a splendid elm dining table. Tea and coffee appear as often as required. The perfectly poached or rich yellow scrambled eggs, local sausages, bacon, Welsh potato cakes and toast, croissants, rolls, marbles of butter and yet more preserves. It could be very easy to sit here all day, perusing the papers, setting the world to rights and ignoring the world outside." (Eat Well in Wales 2001)A keen gardener, Jacquie has created a mature garden that blends into the hillside and provides many vistas of a stunning landscape.Restore your spirits, stroll around and enjoy the mature and tranquil garden with its views of Grongar Hill (associated with the poet John Dyer and Aberglasney Gardens) and Llyn y Fan Fach (famous for the legend of the Lady of the Lake and the Physicians of Myddfai). In spring the orchards are carpeted in snowdrops (Eirlys), daffodils (Lent Lily or Blodyn mis Mawrth), the Tenby daffodil (Narcissus obvallaris) and bluebells (Cychau'r Glas). Enjoy the company of our Brecon Buff geese, Welsh Harlequin ducks, free-range hens and (during the autumn and winter) our free range Norfolk Bronze turkeys.
