Colchester Zoo
About
Colchester Zoo is a world‑class destination for wildlife lovers in Essex, spanning 60 acres of lush parkland and home to more than 150 species of animals from across the globe. The zoo offers a family‑friendly experience with interactive attractions, themed zones, and plenty of play areas for children, making it an ideal outing for the whole family. Visitors are treated to a range of immersive adventures: the sprawling Kingdom of the Wild showcases African plains and rainforests, while the Elephant Kingdom gives a close‑up view of these gentle giants. The Lost Madagascar Express road train and the newly opened Dinosaur Realm let guests step back in time to prehistoric landscapes, and the dinosaur trail invites punting, fishing and safari‐style exploration of the zoo’s wildlife. Beyond entertainment, Colchester Zoo is a global conservation champion. As a charitable trust, it supports projects worldwide—including its own UmPhafa Nature Reserve in South Africa—and has donated over £4.7 million since 2004 to protect vulnerable species and habitats. Visitors help fund these critical initiatives through admission, animal adoption, and special experiences, ensuring the zoo’s continued growth and impact.
