The Layer Fox

The Layer Fox is at the centre of the rural village of Layer de la Haye near Colchester. Over 300 years old, it re-opened as a Free House under new management in the summer of 2015 having been completely restored throughout in cluing the toilets and kitchen. There are also four comfortable en-suite bedrooms in a separate building 20 yards from the restaurant thus quiet in the evening. There is a beautiful dining room open seven days a week, a separate bar with a roaring fire in winter plus a cosy snug with books and free newspapers. There are two terraces for sunnier days and free parking at the rear. All dishes are prepared and cooked on-site using local, seasonal produce whilst the menu is changed regularly. Children are well catered for with their own menu, high chairs and toys. Dogs welcome everywhere save the main dining room. Bicyclists, walkers riders and bird walkers are especially welcome and parties of up to 25 can be well looked after for but please book in advance.
