Great Orme Mines
About
Great Orme Mines offers visitors a rare glimpse into Britain’s Bronze Age mining heritage. The self‑guided tour takes around 45 minutes, beginning at the well‑equipped visitor centre where an engaging introductory film sets the scene. Guests then explore a 200‑metre underground passage that winds through two levels of the mine, followed by a surface walk around the smelting shelter and the open‑cast mine, showcasing how ancient miners extracted copper. Throughout the walk an informative guidebook and pictures of 4,000‑year‑old tools bring the past to life. The site is ideally suited for families, history enthusiasts and school groups. Children as young as five can accompany parents on the tour—under five‑year‑olds are admitted free of charge—while adults can purchase a full ticket for £12.50 or a family ticket for £33.50 (covering two adults and two children). Additional children may be added for £5.00 each. A small shop offers souvenirs and refreshments. Visitors will appreciate the site’s accessibility, with a well‑lit underground route, sufficient safety gear, and a smooth flow between underground and surface tracks. Although the mine’s path can be narrow at times, there are no barriers for wheelchairs or pushchairs, making it a pleasant experience for visitors of all ages.
