The Four Penny Pub
About
Legend has it that when the Warwick section of The Grand Union Canal was being built in the early 1800s the Tavern on Crompton Street was charging a mere four pennies for a cup of coffee and a tot of rum. Other inns were charging an “outrageous” six pennies! Hence, The Fourpenny Shop. It has had a few other names over its lifetime; The Paul Pry, The Warwick Tavern and The Old Fourpenny Shop. Following a total refurbishment we have given the pub a new name to go with it’s new look: ‘The Silver Groat Tavern’. The Hotel will continue to be known as The Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel. At The Silver Groat Tavern you will find six ever-changing real ales, craft lagers, ciders and a global selection of fine wines. Our food menus have been designed so they are affordable, seasonal, generously portioned and use locally sourced produce. There is a selection of traditional pub classics and old favourites, as well as daily specials. On Sundays you will also be able to choose from a selection of roasts served with fresh vegetables, home-made Yorkshire puddings and gravy. The Silver Groat is a great place to enjoy gorgeous grub and grog!! Opening Times
