Ecclesbourne Valley Railway
About
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire’s longest heritage line, stretching 9 miles between Wirksworth and Duffield. Operated by a dedicated volunteer team, the route winds through rolling hill country, woodlands and farmland, offering a picturesque journey back in time on authentic steam and diesel locomotives. Along the way the line hosts a myriad of themed events – from classic Murder Mystery trips to festive Afternoon Teas and fine dining experiences. The railway also features an interactive dining car service, the ‘Derbyshire Countryman,’ and a special 1‑in‑27 incline at Ravensthor Station that provides stunning views of the Peak District. With regular weekend services and occasional special events throughout the year, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway delivers a memorable family‑friendly day out that celebrates both railway heritage and the natural beauty of the area.
