Belhaven Brewery
About
Belhaven Brewery, founded in 1719, is Scotland’s oldest working brewery and a treasured historic landmark in Dunbar. Nestled on the banks of the Tweed, the 300‑year‑old family‑owned brewery still uses 100 % Scottish malted barley, spring water from the local source and its proprietary Belhaven yeast to produce a range of classic Scottish ales and specialty cask beers. In addition to its flagship “Best” and “Black Scottish Stout”, the brewery offers seasonal styles such as the sparkling “Intergalactic Dry‑Hopped Lager” and bold “Twisted Thistle IPA”. The facility also manages a network of over 150 pubs under the Belhaven Pubs brand, making it a key player in Scotland’s pub culture. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the historic cellars and brewhouse, learn about the brewing process, and taste the brewery’s award‑winning beers. In 2018 the company introduced the Belhaven Bursary for Innovation in Scottish Music, a £25 000 award that highlights the brewery’s commitment to community and culture.
