About

The Dunbear is a stunning five-metre-high steel sculpture of a brown bear, created as a tribute to pioneering Dunbar-born naturalist and conservationist, John Muir (1838-1914). Muir is known as ‘Father of the National Parks’ due to the leading role he played in establishing National Parks in the USA, including Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks in California. The sculpture forms the centrepiece of the proposed Dunbear Park development. Erected in 2019. It was created by Scottish sculptor, Andy Scott, responsible for other prominent public artworks, including The Kelpies near Falkirk.
