The Crown
About
The Crown is an independent, family‑run freehouse at the heart of Hastings Old Town, just a stone’s throw from the clifftop country park and the beach. Reopened in 2014 by the Swan family, the pub has quickly become a community hub, celebrated for its welcoming ambience, dog‑friendly policy and vibrant art exhibitions. The menu focuses on modern British cuisine, with seasonal fish, meat and vegetarian dishes sourced from local fishing fleets, farms and producers. The kitchen operates 12‑4 pm and 5‑9 pm seven days a week, serving a rotating seasonal menu and a full wash of craft beers, ciders, fine European and English wines, and a specialist gin and whisky selection. Local coffee from Chucky’s, loose‑leaf teas from Proper Tea Co and a variety of soft drinks including kombucha and farm‑juices keep the bar lively. An ever‑changing gallery of art, sculpture and photography lines the walls, while a cosy snug, picnic benches and ample indoor seating cater to families, couples and solo travellers alike. The Crown hosts regular events, from knit‑and‑raisin groups to wellbeing collectives and music nights, further cementing its role as a cultural cornerstone of Hastings.
