About

Discover Gladstone's Land, one of Edinburgh’s oldest tenement houses, cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. Explore 400 years of history as you journey through three floors filled with fascinating stories of the past. Our interactive self-guided tours allow you to touch, open and sit on our collection, providing a hands-on experience. Relax in our new café and ice cream parlour, offering a variety of cakes, hot drinks, snacks, and ice cream flavours, including one made from an 18th-century recipe! It's the sweetest stop on the Royal Mile! Take a guided tour with one of our knowledgeable guides, or enjoy our specialty tours such as "Tables through Time", which explores food history, or "Intimate Lives", a tour focused on intimacy through the ages (16+). Named after Thomas Gladstone, a merchant who extended the house in the early 1610s, Gladstone's Land is renowned for its beautifully preserved painted ceilings, which continue to impress visitors today.
