Benromach Distillery
About
Benromach Distillery, nestled in the picturesque town of Forres in Speyside, is a living testament to Scotland’s lost whisky heritage. Re‑opened in 1998 by Prince Charles, the distillery resurrects a rich, lightly smoky single‑malt style that was once the hallmark of the region. Hand‑crafted from locally maltered barley and spring water from the Chapelton Springs, every dram is distilled through two bespoke copper pot stills and maturing in first‑fill Sherry and bourbon casks. Wall‑to‑wall, visitors witness the journey from mash to spirit to cask, including the iconic dunnage‑style warehouses that preserve the whisky’s character. The distillery also hosts the celebrated “Contrasts” series, an experimental range that showcases unique cask finishes and barley‑drying methods, adding depth and variety to its core lineup. Each visit offers a guided tour, tasting sessions, and, for G&M members, a rare chance to fill and sign a cask. With award‑winning 10‑, 15‑, and 21‑year‑old releases, Benromach combines time‑honoured traditions with contemporary innovation, making it a must‑visit destination for whisky enthusiasts and casual travellers alike.
