Speyside Cooperage
About
Welcome to Speyside Cooperage, the heart of Scotland’s whisky heritage and the oldest independent cooperage in the UK. Here visitors are invited on a unique acorn‑to‑cask journey that takes them through the ancient art of coopering, from harvesting the oak to crafting the barrels that hold fine whisky. The experience blends live demonstrations by master cooperage craftsmen with a 4‑D sensory film, offering sights, sounds and aromas of the crafting process. The visitor centre, located on Dufftown Road in Craigellachie, showcases the workshop, viewing gallery and a range of crafted gift items. Booking is essential and tours run on the hour; children under eight are not permitted on the tours. For a truly authentic experience, book in advance and prepare to explore the workshop hands‑on. Beyond the traditional cooperage, the venue also hosts events, exhibitions and a small gift shop featuring bespoke barrels and associated products—making it a perfect stop for whisky enthusiasts, craft lovers and families alike.
