Lakenheath Fen RSPB Reserve
About
Lakenheath Fen is an RSPB reserve created in 1995 to attract breeding Bitterns, who were close to extinction in the UK at that time. As well as plenty of Bitterns, the reserve also supports a great deal of other wildlife too- in Spring, Cuckoo and Hobby arrive here from Africa with a wealth of warblers and our Common cranes return to breed too. In Summer, young birds are all over the place as well as wide range of butterflies and dragonflies. Come autumn, migrant birds like Whooper swan, Redwing and Fieldfare arrive to spend the winter with us. Birds resident year-round include Marsh harriers, Kingfishers and Bearded tits. Come to Lakenheath Fen to explore our network of winding paths through a peaceful wetland- whatever your level of interest or knowledge of wildlife. We are a Fenland oasis for everyone to enjoy! As well as a Visitor Centre and bean-to-cup coffee machine, we also sell pre-packaged snacks, have toilet facilities and a generous car park.
