The Cridford Inn
About
The Grade II listed Cridford Inn stands proudly in the small village of Trusham, nestling happily in the Teign Valley somewhere between Chudleigh, Newton Abbot and Exeter. It dates back to 825AD and can lay claim to being the oldest pub in Devon and possibly the oldest in England. A traditional thatched longhouse full of quirks, it was originally inhabited by the early Celts and over the centuries has been owned by Buckfast Abbey and served as a nunnery, then a farm, before being remodelled in 1081 and later mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It’s certainly a looker and today is run with great enthusiasm by Paul and Ness Moir. Step inside and you can feel the 1000+ years of history around you. The thick cob walls, oak beams, stone floors, original bread oven and large inglenook fireplaces all make for a very inviting and cosy pub with bags of old-world character. Real ales, fine wine and hearty pub classics, delicious vegan dishes and rolling creative specials ensure an enjoyable visit
