Glenfinnan Station Museum Dining Car
About
The Glenfinnan Station Museum Dining Car offers a unique blend of Highland heritage and culinary delight. Set inside a preserved 1950’s standard open coach, the dining car transforms the nostalgia of railway travel into a cozy, family‑friendly café. Served from August to early October each year, the menu showcases locally‑sourced produce, including smoked salmon, duck and cheese, alongside a rotating selection of breakfast, lunch, home‑baking and drinks. Guests can enjoy their meal inside the coach, on the panoramic decking overlooking the loch, or take it away, making it a versatile spot for diners on the go. A key feature of the dining car is the free museum tour that accompanies every visit. After indulging in a meal, guests receive a complimentary walk through the Glenfinnan Station Museum’s exhibition space, where they can learn about the West Highland Line, the Glenfinnan Viaduct and life on the railway. The dining car therefore serves as an excellent gateway into the museum’s rich history, allowing visitors to sample regional flavours before exploring the exhibits. Opening hours are designed to accommodate both daytime visitors and evening diners. The dining car is open Tuesday-Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with an extended evening slot on Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Friday’s hours run from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. On Sundays and Mondays the dining car is closed, except for July and August when a special lunch service runs from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Mondays. The restaurant’s friendly staff, vegetarian and vegan options, and a no‑smoking policy further enhance the dining experience, making it a popular choice for families, history enthusiasts and casual travellers alike.
