About
The Crown Inn, tucked into the heart of Chiddingfold’s historic village green, traces its origins back to 1285 when it served as a modest rest house for Cistercian monks traveling to the shrine of Thomas Becket. Its earliest recorded reference dates to 1383, and it has since grown into one of England’s oldest inns. The Crown has a rich tapestry of historic moments, from hosting King Edward VI in 1552 to welcoming cultural icons such as the rock band Genesis in the 1980s. Modern guests continue to enjoy a blend of antique charm—stained‑glass windows, oak‑panelled rooms and a cosy fireside bar—while benefiting from contemporary amenities and a welcoming, family‑friendly atmosphere.
