Rye Harbour Nature Reserve
About
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, nestled on the serene east coast of Sussex, is one of the UK’s most visited nature reserves, welcoming around 360,000 visitors each year. Managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust, the reserve spans saltmarshes, shingle beaches, saline lagoons, grazing marshes and reedbeds, offering a mosaic of habitats that support more than 300 rare or endangered species. Visitors can explore the private road and a network of bird‑watching hides – ideal for both seasoned ornithologists and families looking for a quiet escape. In May 2021 the modern, wheelchair‑accessible Discovery Centre opened, providing educational displays, a café, a shop and a seamless entry point for all guests. Whether you’re chasing migrating birds, tracing the coastline on footpaths, or simply enjoying the tranquil coastal scenery, Rye Harbour delivers a rich, accessible experience for nature lovers of all ages.
