Harwich Redoubt Fort
About
Harwich Redoubt Fort is an iconic 180‑foot (60‑meter) circular fort built in 1808 to defend the town against a Napoleonic invasion. Today it functions as a fascinating military museum with displays of weapons, uniforms and the fort’s storied history. Visitors can explore its expansive interior, climb to the upper gallery for sweeping views of Harwich Harbour, and enjoy the free child admission policy for families. A stair lift is available for those needing assistance, ensuring the fort is accessible to all. Hourly volunteer guides provide live commentary, and an audio trail guides self‑paced tours. Open every Sunday year‑round 10:00‑16:00, and during the summer (1 May–30 September) from Thursday to Sunday 10:00‑16:00, subject to volunteer availability.
