Dolaucothi Gold Mines is the United Kingdom’s only surviving Roman gold mine, located in the scenic Cothi Valley near Pumsaint in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Visitors can explore surface features such as the Gold Mine, Roman Mine, Mitchell Mine, Long Adit, Gold Panning Area, Mine Yard, and the Field Centre, while guided underground tours reveal the extraordinary Roman mining techniques that operated here from AD 75 to the 3rd century. In addition to the underground adventures, the estate offers 2,500 acres of woodland, farmsteads, and peaceful walking routes, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The National Trust runs the site and offers guided tours that must be pre‑booked. Children under five enter free, in addition to a standard ticket price for adults and children. A small parking fee is charged, but the woodland car park is free.
