About
The Charter Market dates from 1193 when Lancaster was granted its first charter, allowing it to hold a weekly market. Now the market pops up every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am at the heart of Lancaster’s pedestrianised city centre. You can enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional outdoor market and the aromas of freshly cooked food, as you meander through a variety of stalls selling a wide selection of items. A popular destination for locals, students and visitors alike, the market is close to most of the city’s major historic, retail and cultural attractions, making it an essential ingredient of any visit to this beautiful city.
