About

The Hepworth Wakefield is a striking contemporary art museum located on the south side of the River Calder in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Opened on 21 May 2011, its 1,600‑square‑metre gallery was designed by renowned architect David Chipperfield, boasting soaring ceilings, natural light and panoramic views of the city and river. Its permanent collection is anchored by 1,600 plaster and aluminium models donated by Barbara Hepworth’s family, alongside rotating exhibitions that showcase contemporary art from around the world. Admission is free for members, Wakefield District residents, and children under 18, while a £13 adult ticket or £11 child ticket provides non‑resident access to all gallery spaces. In addition to the exhibitions, the Hepworth offers a café and bar overlooking the river, a learning studio, a 100‑seat auditorium, and a shop. The garden is free to enter and hosts a variety of hands‑on activities for families and school groups, making the venue a popular choice for art lovers, history enthusiasts, families, and casual visitors alike.
