Standing almost in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral, the medieval bishops’ palace offers a remarkable glimpse into England’s medieval past. The extensive remains of the great palace, once the administrative centre of the largest diocese in medieval England, unfold across a sprawling site that now includes a hill‑top terraced garden and vineyard with sweeping views of the city and countryside. Visitors can wander the ruins, see the undercrofted East Hall, the chapel range and the entrance tower, and enjoy a film, exhibition and audio tour that reveals how the palace was used and lived in for five centuries. The site’s conservation project, completed in 2023, has restored stonework and made more of the palace accessible to visitors.
