Chester Zoo
About
Chester Zoo is the United Kingdom’s flagship conservation zoo, set on 51 hectares of rolling countryside just north of the historic town of Chester. With more than 30,000 animals representing over 500 species, the zoo offers a living tapestry of habitats ranging from the lush, rainforest‑like Monsoon Forest to the sprawling savannah‑style Heart of Africa and the award‑winning Islands at Chester Zoo – a 15‑acre South‑East‑Asian themed complex opened in 2015. Visitors can engage with interactive displays, experience Keeper‑led animal talks, and take part in seasonal events such as Lanterns & Light, Winter’s Eatable Hours, and Christmas‑themed visits. The zoo’s core mission is conservation: it runs global projects in Madagascar, Indonesia, and beyond, partners with the International Academy to deliver educational programmes, and offers a membership scheme that gives unlimited free visits to 17 partner zoos across the UK.
