About
Liverpool Central Library, housed within the historic William Brown Street campus, is a must‑visit for anyone looking to explore the city’s literary heritage. The landmark building, redesigned by architects Austin‑Smith:Lord, opened its doors again in May 2013 after a £50 m transformation, featuring an airy atrium crowned by a glass dome, a glass‑roofed roof terrace with stunning views over Liverpool, and a 72‑foot granite staircase etched with literary titles. The library proudly preserves its heritage through the Picton Reading Room, the Hornby Library and the Oak Room, while catering to contemporary visitors with free Wi‑Fi, a café, a visitors’ centre and a children's library in an historic space.
