About

The Old Dock Tour takes you beneath the heart of Liverpool to the world’s first commercial enclosed wet dock, founded in 1715. Guided from the entrance of the Pump House Pub, visitors witness the towering 20‑foot dock walls, a reconstructed bridge and walkways that give panoramic views of the historic harbour. The lecture‑style walk lasts about one hour and is offered every Wednesday, Friday, every other Thursday and Saturday at 10:30 am, 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm. Museum members can book free tickets by logging in at the museum’s website; general visitors can purchase tickets on the day of the tour. Aside from its remarkable engineering history, the tour showcases the growth of Liverpool’s global trade, the material culture of the River Mersey and the city’s complex relationship with the trans‑Atlantic slave trade.
