About

Café de Paris commands a storied presence in London’s West End, tracing its origins back to 1924 when the club opened on Coventry Street. Over nearly a century, it evolved into a cultural juggernaut, hosting illustrious figures such as Marlene Dietrich, Frank Sinatra, and royalty, and serving as a launch pad for the glamour of the era’s cabaret scene. The club’s history is as dramatic as its playlists. In 1941, during the Blitz, a German bomb shattered its ballroom, killing 34 patrons and injuring many more. The venue remained shuttered until 1948, when it rebounded to become one of London’s leading theatre clubs, turning to the conservative yet energetic cabaret ethos that would persist into the 1990s. After maintaining a strong night‑life reputation for decades, Café de Paris closed permanently in December 2020 amid the economic fallout of the Covid‑19 pandemic. In February 2023, the space was revived by the Pacha Group under the new name Lío London, blending the venue’s historic charm with contemporary club and dining experiences. Today, visitors can still appreciate the legacy of the legendary nightclub while enjoying modern entertainment. Whether one is drawn by its rich architectural past or the thrill of a late‑night cabaret, Café de Paris (now Lío London) remains a must‑visit for nightlife connoisseurs and history enthusiasts alike.
