Chicama
About
Located in the heart of Chelsea, Chicama was a bohemian beach‑house‑inspired seafood restaurant that celebrated the bold flavours of Peruvian coastal cuisine. Opened in 2016 by the Pachamama Group, it combined a vibrant casual dining space with an intimate private room, all set in an atmosphere that echoed a fishing village on the northern Peruvian coast. The menu was built around a daily haul of fresh fish from Cornwall—octopus, sole, monkfish and more—paired with creatively tossed salads and handmade sauces that highlighted seasonal British produce. A signature touch was the use of “umami” notes, reminiscent of the Nikkei style, to elevate each dish. Complementing the dishes was a carefully curated bar featuring Pisco, Mezcals, Japanese whiskey, sake and a wine list that spanned light whites to full‑bodied reds. Guests could dine at a day menu (12‑4 pm), a dinner menu (5:30‑10 pm) or choose a tasting menu (12 pm‑11:45 pm) while the daily drinks service ran the same hours. The restaurant’s unique ambience—with hand‑picked curios, maritime décor and a lively open kitchen—made it a favourite for both locals and visitors seeking authentic Peruvian seafood in London. Chicama closed its Chelsea doors on 15 September 2023, but its legacy of fresh, flavour‑driven seafood continues to resonate with diners who remember the restaurant’s spirited approach to Peruvian cuisine.
