Santander Cycles
About
Santander Cycles, formerly Barclays Cycle Hire, is London’s flagship public bicycle‑share scheme operated by Transport for London (TfL) and Serco. Launched on 30 July 2010, the network has expanded to more than 12,000 bikes and 800 docking stations covering almost every borough of central London, including the Olympic Park and Brixton. Users can rent a bike by tap‑and‑scan on a docking terminal or via the official app, and pay £1.65 for every 30‑minute interval, with day passes at £3.50, monthly memberships at £20 and an annual pass for £120. The scheme also offers electrically assisted e‑bikes, introduced in 2022, that cost £3.30 for the first 30 minutes and £1.65 for each additional 30‑minute block. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing a convenient, environmentally friendly way to explore London’s streets and tourist attractions.
