About
Barton Springs is part of Barton Hills National Nature Reserve. It is a fine example of chalk downland and beech woodland in the north Chilterns. The whole site is open access, and there are a number of footpaths throughout making it a popular destination for walkers, families and wildlife enthusiasts. The reserve is protected due to the rare wildlife that live there such as the Pasque flower, greater pignut and field fleawort, and butterflies including chalkhill blue, marbled white and dark green fritillary. It is seasonally grazed by Dartmoor ponies, so please keep dogs under close supervision.
