Hemsley Conservation Centre
About
Hemsley Conservation Centre, nestled in the tranquil rural setting of Fairseat in Kent, is a purpose‑built wildlife haven that brings the natural world into the heart of England. Since its opening in August 2015, the centre has grown into a dedicated conservation hub for some of the world’s most endangered and under‑represented species – from aardwolves and golden conures to shy cloud‑forest mammals like the Cuban Hutia and Kinkajous. The centre’s mission is not only to protect and breed these rare animals but also to inspire visitors through interactive learning. Education programmes cater to schools and nurseries with age‑appropriate workshops, “Animal Experiences” and “Zookeeping” sessions, while general visitors can choose from a range of curated encounters such as the 30‑minute Meerkat Encounter or the longer Junior Zookeeper programme. All experiences include expert keeper commentary, allowing guests to gain deeper insight into the animals’ behaviours and conservation stories. Beyond the animal interactions, Hemsley offers scenic habitats, conservation projects, and a Rainforest Tearoom where visitors can enjoy plant‑based meals and café‑style treats. Whether you’re a family, a wildlife enthusiast, or a student of natural sciences, Hemsley Conservation Centre delivers an educational yet entertaining day out that raises awareness for biodiversity while ensuring the wellbeing of its beloved residents.
