About
The Hat Works Museum, housed in the historic Grade II listed Wellington Mill, is the United Kingdom’s only museum dedicated to the hatting industry. The purpose‑built museum showcases an extensive collection of headwear spanning 700 years of fashion, from Victorian top hats to modern sporting caps, illustrating how hat design evolved alongside societal trends. Visitors can wander through the restored factory floor, where they can observe the machinery that once shaped Stockport’s renowned hat trade, and join guided tours that explore the intricacies of traditional hatmaking. In addition to the exhibitions, the museum features a café run by Arc Centre Stockport, offering visitors a place to relax between displays.
