Aysgarth Falls
About
Aysgarth Falls is a breathtaking triple-flight waterfall located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, just north of the village of Aysgarth. Spanning roughly 200 feet (61 m) over a little more than a mile of the River Ure, the falls cascade over three tiers—Upper, Middle and Lower Force—through limestone steps and wooded valleys that offer sweeping views of the surrounding hills. The site draws nature lovers, photographers, hikers and families alike, and its popularity has earned it a status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Visitors can explore well‑marked footpaths that wind past the falls, stopping at scenic lookouts, and can explore the nearby visitors’ centre, which houses an exhibition about the geology and history of the area, a café and a small shop selling local crafts and souvenirs. A free, pay‑and‑display car‑park is situated close to the centre, allowing guests to enjoy the falls without the need for an admission fee. The area also hosts a range of wildlife – from chirping birds and muskrats to salmon that occasionally leap upstream in autumn – making it a compelling destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
