Pen-y-Fan
About
Pen y Fan stands as the highest point of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Powys, Wales, rising to 886 metres (2,907 ft). The summit offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding hills, the Georgian coast, and even the Bristol Channel on clear days. The climb is well‑marked with established paths from the Storey Arms and Pont ar Daf car parks, and is a popular challenge for hikers of all levels. A small granite obelisk commemorates the young boy Tommy Jones, who tragically lost his life in the 1900s, adding a poignant historical note to the climb. Managed by the National Trust, the park preserves the mountain’s natural beauty and historic heritage, welcoming visitors year‑round with minimal facilities but abundant scenery.
