Nottingham trams
About
Nottingham Express Transit (NET) is a state‑of‑the‑art tram network that runs across 32 km (20 mi) of the city, linking key destinations such as Old Market Square, the City Centre, Queens Medical Centre and the University of Nottingham. Opened on 9 March 2004, the system initially operated on a 14 km route between Hucknall and the city centre, and has since expanded to include two lines that share a common section through the heart of Nottingham before branching to the north and south. Each line is served by modern Bombardier Incentro and Alstom Citadis 302 trams, which offer rapid, low‑cost, and environmentally friendly transport for both residents and visitors. A defining feature of NET is its seamless integration with the city’s transport infrastructure: Park & Ride stations provide free parking for ticket holders, while on‑board validators support contact‑less payment and digital ticketing via the free NETGO! app. The network’s high service frequency—every 7–10 minutes in many areas and 3–10 minutes in the central corridor—ensures reliable connections to the wider regional rail network and convenient access to cultural landmarks. Whether you’re a first‑time visitor exploring Nottingham’s bustling city centre, a student commuting to campus, or a commuter looking for a quick and hassle‑free alternative to the bus, NET offers a convenient, flexible, and increasingly accessible way to navigate the city’s diverse attractions and neighbourhoods.
