Est’d 2007, Beckside Books is a 2nd hand and antiquarian bookshop tucked away in a central but quiet part of the historic town of Penrith, N.Cumbria, just 5 minutes from the Lake District national park. As well as a very broad range of very reasonably priced books, we also have a large selection of maps and some photos, postcards and cigarette cards. Browsers are more than welcome. Take your time and relax a while on our new sofas with a coffee or one of a selection of teas as you gaze out over the tranquil church garden and ponder the words at your lap. Keep an eye out on this page or in the shop for news on formal events (outside of opening hours, e.g. gigs, lectures, workshops) and informal meet-ups on the sofas (during opening hours, e.g. poetry reading, book club, Spanish conversation practice, story reading to children).
