Rievaulx Terrace and Temples
About
Rievaulx Terrace is a celebrated 18th‑century landscape garden in North Yorkshire, near the historic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. Designed by Thomas Duncombe, it features two classical temple follies – the Ionic Temple and the Tuscan Temple – set amid rolling lawns, woodland, and vibrant wild‑flower beds. The terrace offers sweeping views over the abbey’s ruins and the surrounding York Moors. Visitors can stroll through the garden, enjoy picnics on the grass, and explore quiet woodland paths. Seasonal highlights include spring wild‑flower blooms, summer shade along the trees, and autumn foliage. It is a popular family‑friendly destination and a convenient combined visit with the national‑trust‑owned Nunnington Hall.
